The singles 81>85 [Depeche Mode]
Recently I've found myself singing some classic 'Mode songs to myself.
Also, Marilyn Mansun has done a (rather good) cover of Personal Jesus, and that song has been in my mind too.So I decided to buy the Depeche Mode singles collection. Both '81>85', and '86>98'.
I've had the live album '101' for a number of years now, but I've never really listened to it that much as I find the sound of the crowd tends to get in the way of the music. Now I realise I've been missing out on listening to some great tunes. This collection covers the first five years of Depeche Mode's music (hence the title) and has songs I remember from the eighties such as 'Master and Servant' and 'Everything Counts', and one or two that I'd forgotton about like 'New Life' and 'See You'. The track 'Shake the Disease' was one I hadn't heard a much before but has now jumped into my all time favourites. To think it was hidden away on '101' all this time.
I'm a big fan of eighties synth pop, and it's clear from this album that these guys were the masters.
