Sound of the underground [Girls Aloud]


'Sound of the underground' (the single) had already grown on me a lot before I found out that these girls were the winners of the Pop Star/Rivals/Whatever program. Which disappointed me because I hate these shows. I hate reality TV, and I hate manufactured pop bands. What bizzare hybrid of the two formats could produce anything good?. My theory is that the split in the two leading bands wasn't as even as usual. Instead of the show producing two mediocre bands, it produced one stinking heap of One Shite Voice, who have disappeared faster than is normal even for boy bands, leaving all the talent for Girls Aloud.
Far from being the one hit wonder everyone speculated, 'No good advice' was another great song, and it doesn't stop there. The next few songs on the album are also very good, the next are pretty good, the next ok. You see the pattern here.
If they continue to release tracks off the album in numerical order then they'll do well for a while, but they'll have to reinvent themselves after that otherwise they'll end up being very samey, like the latter half of this album.
